I suggest using Adobe Acrobat to make the magazines into PDF files. This will save hard disk space and bandwidth, pack all the pages into one file, and will allow users to download a full issue in one file, rather than having to download each individual file.

I don't have an Adobe writer... so I cannot do this, but if anyone has one, this is not a bad idea. The only thing bad about this is the file size... I am not sure if image pdf files take up a lot of space.

For the current download they are by issues as well, except the most current issue. I zipped everything in one file.

Reading on photobucket is really annoying, but I find downloading the images and reading on the computer to be actually pretty convenient :3

As for PDF, image pdfs may not actually be a whole lot less than jpegs. But Since they're not hosted on the site it doesn't really hurt our bandwidth...

I wish we could do something about the "view online" version for the older releases tho :3

Yeah... I have actually been thinking about that too... but I cannot make a manga viewer script for every issue since it will be kind of in a mess...

And Photobucket at first is showing 100% views, so I thought it is quite convenient, but then it is resizing all images now, which makes reading a pain...

Does anyone know of some site where we can update pages like the manga viewer? (No Tokyopop! Thanks.)

how about webcomic hosts?

http://www.comicdish.com/ comes to mind.

Each dream release would be its own comic :O

It seems like a lot more work, but they could all have the same layout so its not like a new one has to be made each month :S and also, the month's release can be put on directly (no need to move it to photobucket and then put on the new release on mangaviewer, only need to move link to the "archive" page...)

If we use a comic host, I still like to use Smackjeeves because it is flexible (in terms of layout, custom pages etc...) We can have one account with all issues posting from the first one, then I can just link the page where a new issue starts to the site.

Till now I have never seen a downtime on SJ so I think it is pretty reliable...

The only reason I have not done this earlier is because most of our mangas are already on SJ ^_^

For the manga viewer we are using right now, the pages are actually emptied and uploaded onto our host every month... the photobucket thingie is just a backup in case our host dies...

If you'd like, I can make the PDF's, and I also have a server which could host all the comics, sorta like a mirror. It's all up to you.

That would be great if you can do that! =D It will be nice to have a mirror. I can send you the files if you need them, or you can just download them all as rar files from the site.

I can do that too on the current version of Photoshop. If you need help converting the past issues I could lend a hand too Lancet.

one thing that's a little annoying with comic hosts (i don't know about the one yuyren mentioned) is that they make you set it either right to left or left to right. but in dream, some mangas are left to right while others are right to left. that's why i really like our manga viewer. becuase it just says go to next page, it doesn't require you to click a left button or a right button (which can be quite annoying and confusing if the mangas are constantly changing layout formats)

Well, actually on SJ I can code the layout so that we don't need the arrows for the next page and previous page buttons, well, perhaps I can try coding it so that it goes to the next page when we click on the image =P <- not sure if this is possible but I can look into it.

Yeah, if you want me to make the PDF's or just mirror them, send them to me with any specifications, and I'll send you the URL.

I guess we don't really have any specifications... (I don't really know what specifications there are for making a PDF file)...

It would be great if we can have one pdf file for each issue, and best to keep the file size low... perhaps below 10Mb or 20Mb will be okay I guess...

Thanks for the help ^_^

Do you want me to host them, or for them to be hosted on your own server?

You can host them if you have enough space, if not I will host them on mediafire, just like the .rar downloads.
